Building a Healthy Peace

The fighting stopped in 2005 but building a lasting peace in South Sudan will take many more years. A ceasefire is just the first step; people need food, healthcare, infrastructure, and jobs to achieve full security in their lives. In Kajo-Keji, a small town not far from the Ugandan border, IMC provides life saving medical care to a war torn people. At the heart of this effort is Mundari Hospital. Since September 2006, it has been operated by IMC and its local partners. It serves over 150.000 people, many of them returning refugees. IMC is dedicated to upgrading the clinic and will attach a training center for health workers, the only facility of this kind in the whole of South Sudan. South Sudan has shifted from an emergency situation to reconstruction and IMC contributes to the recovery by building capacities that will help people to build their own future.
